The ATFD operates on the principle of indirect heat transfer and mechanical agitation. The wet feed is introduced into the top of a vertical, jacketed cylinder. A high-speed rotor, fitted with wiper blades, spreads the material into a thin, turbulent film against the heated wall. Hot thermal oil or steam circulating in the jacket provides the necessary energy for rapid evaporation. The agitated thin film ensures maximum heat transfer, prevents fouling or scaling on the heated surface, and continuously pushes the partially dried product downward. As the material descends, moisture flashes off, and the final dry, free-flowing powder is discharged from the bottom, while the evaporated vapors are condensed and collected separately.
